_Creative, bespoke wooden furniture and low impact buildings from the mountains of North Wales.  Designed and made by Dan Collister.  Elm, ash and oak tables and coffee tables.  Timber frame and strawbale buildings with living turf roofs.  Simple and unusual kitchen designs, with solid ash, oak, elm or sycamore worktops.

I love working with wood and I'm always grateful that I can wake up in the morning and look forward to the days' adventures.

The unexpected colour or grain patterns revealed beneath the dirt of an old board.

The satisfaction of hammering home a peg or wedge, its note changing as it tightens a joint forever.

Closing a newly hung door, seeing with relief that the spacing all round is right and the catch works well.

Sharpening the scraper plane, then watching  the delicate ribbons of wood that twirl away as I smooth a table top.

Gathering up the shavings and using them to light the fire, piling on dry off cuts and watching it blaze, heating the kettle for a pot of coffee...

Sitting by the fire after lunch with a sketch book, working out the details of the next project.

Driving over the mountains to collect some timber; watching as Dave Hoyle delicately shuffles swaying piles of planks around the barn with his forklift.  Finding a pile of local oak, hard and heavy with burr along the edges - perfect!  Six wide boards carefully selected, the bill settled over tea and a lump of cake.

On the way home the sun setting over the hills to my right, I can smell the oak in the back of the van and feel excited about tomorrow...
